ISO certification cost in India
What you pay for, who you pay, and how to compare quotes. We explain the drivers rather than quote an average that would mislead.
Three layers of cost
ISO certification is not one purchase. It usually involves three kinds of cost, and quotes often cover only one.
| Layer | Who is paid | What moves the cost |
|---|---|---|
| Your own time and effort | Nobody directly | Scope, readiness, how many people must contribute |
| Implementation support | A consultant or specialist | Scope, size, depth of help, who does the writing and training |
| Certification body fees | The certification body | Audit time, which depends on size and complexity, and surveillance audits |
Why we do not publish an average
Costs vary widely with scope and readiness. A single advertised figure usually leaves something out, either the certification body's fee or part of the work. If a quote for ISO certification looks unusually low, ask exactly what it excludes.
What drives the total
- The standard and the scope of the certificate.
- Organisation size and complexity, including number of sites.
- Existing processes, documentation and controls.
- The implementation support you need.
- Certification body audit time and its fee structure.
- Travel, additional assessments and tools.
- Surveillance audits and recertification in later years.
How to compare proposals
- What is included, and what is excluded.
- Who will actually do the work, and their experience.
- Whether certification body fees are included or separate.
- How many audit days are assumed, and for which sites.
- What surveillance audits will cost in years two and three.
- What happens if the audit finds nonconformities.
- Whether you can run the system yourself after the project ends.
Budgeting mistakes
- Counting only consultant fees and forgetting the certification body.
- Ignoring staff time, which is often the largest cost.
- Choosing a scope that is wider than the customer needs.
- Forgetting surveillance audits and recertification.
- For ISO 9001, not planning for the move to the 2026 edition.
One standard or several
ISO 27001 and ISO 9001 share a common structure, so some effort can be combined. The audit scope grows, though, and each certificate has its own audit. Ask for both views in the quote.
